Greta Energy Ltd., part of the Greta Group, has been granted Environment Clearance (EC) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India for its upcoming Greenfield Integrated Steel Project at Telwasa, Bhadrawati Tehsil, Chandrapur District, Maharashtra.
The project, designed with a strong focus on sustainability and low-carbon steelmaking, will comprise a fully integrated facility. It will include a pellet plant, coal gasification unit with sulphur recovery, gas-based DRI plant, and an advanced steel melt shop equipped with Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Furnace (LF), and Vacuum Degassing (VD) technology. The facility will also feature a rolling mill for rebars and wire rods and a brick manufacturing unit.
Greta Group has an established track record in renewable energy, having successfully implemented biomass-based electricity generation projects in Maharashtra. This green foundation is now being expanded into green steelmaking, using advanced coal gasification as part of Greta Energy’s long-term sustainability roadmap.
The Environment Clearance marks a critical milestone towards establishing a state-of-the-art, integrated facility that will contribute to India’s industrial growth while aligning with global decarbonization goals. The project will position Greta Energy as a pioneer in green steel production, leveraging innovation, sustainability, and responsible growth.
